The New Normal?

Once again, a Facebook post has struck my blog inspiration muse. One of my friends posted something that made me do a double take.

There is an ad for the internet channel Pornhub in Times Square.

Not just a small ad that is hidden among others, but a large, obvious "hey look at me" billboard ad on the side of a building. Take a look:

Now I'm not judging people for what they do in there own homes; that's their own business and frankly I'd rather not know; however, I really don't want to be on a trip to New York, have my boys (ages 8, 7, 4, 2, and almost newborn) see this ad and ask what it means. Awkward.

Besides that, this is all to similar to the ads put out by cigarette companies to normalize smoking, because what is normal = money in the bank. They put the ads out there to make smoking look cool, normal, and there is no harm doing it (kinda like the peer pressure lessons in elementary school, "Come on, everyone's doin' it"). Try telling "there is no harm in smoking" to the people (and their loved ones) that died of lung cancer and everything else that can and is caused by smoking. Those ads now have to have warnings on them saying they cause cancer and other health problems, so you do so at your own risk and the companies can't be sued (anymore). Similarly, try telling "there is no harm in porn" to those people who are addicted to it and families that are now broken because of its influence. Will these ads for porn soon come with similar ads?

"WARNING: Watching porn may lead to addictive behavior, causing heartbreak of your loved ones, divorce if married, and may lead to low self esteem, a skewed vision of the opposite sex, and Sexual Dysfunction."

(Yes, porn-induced sexual dysfunction is a thing. Google/Bing it. Welcome to the times in which we live.)

Pornhub should have stayed in the closet. Now that they're out and advertising their services, they could hypothetically get sued by someone who gets addicted to porn, which addiction causes a divorce, and said addict will then use the money they get from winning the headlining trial (or out of court settlement) to finance their alimony and child support payments.

My final point is that masturbation (yes I wrote it, stop giggling and blushing and read on) can not and will not take the place of true love experienced between a husband and wife; and eventually father, mother, and children. For that kind of love, there is no substitute. "Search your feelings! You know this to be true!"

Thanks for reading, and may the Force be with you all.
